Modern mowers, petrol hedge trimmers and chainsaws have taken much of the traditional hard work out of gardening. Top manufacturers such as Flymo, Bosch and Black & Decker have produced a selection of powered tools which mean large, heavy jobs can be completed rapidly and easily. For smaller areas a few good hand tools are ideal; a spade and a good hoe are handy for maintaining borders and flower beds.
When planning your garden, remember that there are a number of different options for planting; tubs, pots, trellises and hanging baskets may all make attractive homes for flowers and shrubs. They can also be easier to maintain than a full border, requiring only a hand trowel or fork to keep them weed free. If you need a hand with encouraging your garden to do well, a good fertiliser and pesticide to deter the bugs are always useful.
