After the police raid his local park in Beijng one night, A-Lan, a young gay writer, is held for intense, one-by-one interrogation. Unwanted memories are gradually revealed, and we glimpse A-Lan's tumultuous childhood, his several sexual experiences, forced farm labour, and his incessant search for love. As the night progresses, the interrogating officer confronts his own feelings, which alternate between revulsion and fascination. An awkward love story unfolds.
