Swim: Re-Surfaced

With its blend of buzz-saw guitars, pounding drums and catchy lyrics, it would be easy to mistake Feeder's debut mini-album Swim for a bunch of cast-offs from Smashing Pumpkins' opus Siamese Dream, especially on "Stereo World", "W.I.T." and "Shade". But Feeder aren't the first up-and-coming band to wear their influences on their sleeves, and besides, by the end of their run, the Smashing Pumpkins didn't have half of the energy or exuberance exhibited on Swim. Granted, "Sweet 16" lyrically comes across as the indie-rock version of Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun", but its riff is undeniably catchy, which could be said of most of the songs here.
